With your video and audio selected, go to the very top menu and select Clip > Unlink. You should see that both the audio and video become selected when you click on either one. Click on your video in the timeline to make sure it’s selected. You will see it has the video and audio joined as one piece of media (video on top, audio on the bottom). Go ahead and name your project if you haven’t already done so. Open Adobe Premiere and create a new project if you haven’t already done so.

Part I – How to separate audio from video I suggest making a backup copy of your files or projects before you begin. I’ll break this down into steps, but if you are already familiar with Adobe Premiere you can just look that the highlighted step 5 to save time. I found the process is really simple using Adobe Premiere Unlink process. My goal was to separate the audio from a video, delete the audio, then import a new music audio track to replace the old audio clip. To undo any changes and start over press Ctrl + Z.I recently had to separate audio from video for a tutorial I was creating and uploading to YouTube. Now go back to the Program Monitor to view your edited video. Using the Selection Tool click on the second segment (the segment on the right) and drag it to the left toward the beginning segment. Deleting the middle segment will leave a gap. Using the Selection Tool select the middle video segment so that it’s highlighted and press Delete on your keyboard.ħ.
Once you have made your second cut you will now have three video segments with the middle segment being the portion you want to delete. Then, go back down to your video timeline and with the Razor Tool click on the vertical blue line.Ħ. This requires going back up to the Program Monitor and forwarding your video to the end of your desired cut. The second cut will happen somewhere in the second segment. Now you will need to identify your second cut. If you make a mistake just undo Ctrl + Z.ĥ. Once you have made a cut you will now have two separate video segments. Use the Razor Tool and click on the blue vertical line inside the Video Timeline to make a cut. With the Video Timeline still selected, choose the Razor Tool from the Tools Panel. Press Ctrl and + (plus key) to enlarge the video timeline if desired.Ĥ. Then in the Timeline Panel click the entire Video Timeline (anywhere in the blue area) so that it’s selected/highlighted. Once you have identified the segment you want to delete in the Program Monitor, look below and make sure the Selection Tool is selected inside the Tools Panel. A faster way of identifying your starting point is by dragging the slider to the desired starting point (identified in the screenshot as the little blue triangle).ģ. This can be done by watching the video with the play button and stopping it at the starting point of the part you want to delete.
Identify the starting point of the portion of the video you want to delete (cut-out) in the Program Monitor (that’s the top panel that shows the video with play buttons, etc.).

So I went ahead and deleted all but the first table leg assembly for my how-to video. Showing just one table leg assembly was sufficient to illustrate the steps involved. I didn’t want to show the assembly of all four legs of the table. The video demonstrated how to assemble a table, but there were parts of the video that were redundant. In my case, I needed to delete parts of a video that I intended to upload to YouTube. This might be portions of the video you feel should be edited-out permanently to better serve your audience and/or to optimize video length. These steps explain how to delete (cut-out) part of a video using Adobe Premiere Pro.
